It's vacation time for kids which brings with it opportunities for outdoor activities and fun. However, this is also the time when the glaring heat of the sun can play havoc with kids' skin too. Though a kid’s skin is quite young and can regenerate fast from ailments, parents often forget that kids too need protection from the harmful UV-rays. Whether they go camping or for outdoor games even in evening time, a child’s skin is too tender and requires care.

- As far as possible keep them indoors or at least out of direct sunlight in peak hours (10 AM to 4 PM) as it is the worst time to be outdoors. Besides, midday is when the sun is at its strongest.
- All children are at risk, whether fair or dark. Skin can burn with intense sun exposure over the summer.
- If your child is a swimming enthusiast, make sure you provide protective swim wear. For regular wear, cotton T-shirts and bright colors are a good choice.
- Many parents worry whether sunscreen is safe for babies. It is better to use sun blocks containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These are used on a baby’s bottom in diaper rash creams. Read bottle labels closely for reapplication advice as even waterproof lotions must be reapplied frequently.
